Let's talk about what the goal with a Prototype should really be
👆 I presented my first-ever prototype built in Bubble in 2019 (built with the old responsiveness engine 😵)
A Prototype should demonstrate the problem well and push for good feedback
1. The True Purpose of Prototypes
Prototypes are not the end product but a means to an end. It's an inexpensive way to simulate your product idea or solution and test its viability. The real success of a prototype is not in its flawless functioning but in how effectively it demonstrates the concept or solution to your audience so they may give you tips on how to productize it.
2. Focus on Feedback, Not Just Functionality
The most valuable outcome of a prototype is the feedback you receive. This feedback is crucial for refining your product concept. A well-designed prototype should be geared towards generating constructive feedback, not just admiration for its design.
3. Provoking Thought and Encouraging Interaction
A prototype should challenge its viewers, provoke discussion, and evoke a response. It should make users imagine a world with your concept in it and actively consider whether it would actually solve their problem. Even negative feedback is a win here, as it is a step towards progress and helps refine your idea.
4. Prototypes: Sacrificial Yet Significant
Remember, prototypes are inherently sacrificial. They are stepping stones in your journey of product development, meant to be built upon, revised, or even discarded as you move closer to the final product. However, their value in providing insights and guiding the development process is immeasurable. So even if you discard a prototype, know that it added value to your process and played its part!
Quick Bubble Tip!
Some Bubblers find prototyping with Bubble to be super helpful. If you're quick with Bubble UI, this can be a good way to set up mock-ups that you can show to potential users and get some feedback to refine it with.
No need for Figma or XD!
